Day 10-11 Bongo mountain antelope-less than 100 left and critically endangered! We visit Donald Bunge, head of mount Kenya game ranch. He runs a 1200 acre ranch where the amazing albino zebra can be found. Importantly he also runs a breeding programme for Bongo antelope, with less than 100 left in the wild (official count of just 20) this is vital for the survival of this stunning antelope (which is only found here!). He now has 62, 12 of which are pregnant and is working with Kenya wildlife service to secure national park land on the mountain to release them back into the wild. Whilst the elephant and Rhino are often the figure heads representing animals facing extinction it’s important that we remember there are actually over 22,700 species that are classified as endangered or critically endangered!!! Time for action.
